The asphalt mix design course is intended for engineers and technicians who are responsible for the mix design process. The course covered the background and details of aggregate tests and specifications used in asphalt mixes. In addition, it discussed the asphalt binder specifications in relationship to mix design. Details on the selection of aggregate gradations and volumetric properties for Superpave design will be covered. Each section covered the proper handling of materials. An introduction to performance testing also is presented. The presentations discussed mix design in Qatar in relation to international practices. Attendees gained a full understanding of the background of the specifications and procedures for conducting mix designs.
